Democratisation of budget formulation process stressed

Experts have underscored the need for more democratisation of the national budget formulation process and tax systems for good governance. They asked the government for taking opinions of the common people in formulating budget to reflect their hopes and aspirations on the annual expenditure and blamed the present budget formulation process that depends on suggestions of the bureaucrats without people’s participations. They came up with the view at a discussion, organised by Democratic Budget Movement in Rangpur city. Member of the Parliament Advocate Hosne Ara Lutfa Dalia attended the discussion as the chief guest. Chaired by valiant freedom fighter Sadrul Alam Dulu, the programme was also attended by Zila parishad Administrator and acting president of district unit of Awami League Mamtaz Uddin Ahmed, founder and former President of Raja Ram Mohan Club Monwar Hossain, valiant freedom fighter Aklima Begum, Advocate Munir Chowdhury and Professor Sharifa Salwa Dina of the Department of Bengali of Begum Rokeya University, Principal Fakhrul Anam Benzu and women’s leader Mosfeka Razzaque. Besides, a large number of the representatives of different political parties, professional groups and socio-cultural organisations, civil society members, women and community leaders, journalists participated. The speakers narrated loopholes in present formulation process of government expenditures and taxation and called upon the government to present more democratic budget by ensuring participation of common people in these processes in order to ensure good governance and root out corruptions, according to a news agency.
