Dengue claims 10 more lives -

Five of them in Dhaka

The health authorities on Tuesday registered 10 more deaths owing to dengue fever, including five from Dhaka.
Meanwhile, 1,984 hospital admissions for the mosquito-borne disease were also recorded during the same period across the country, including 731 from Dhaka, until 8:0 am on Tuesday, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
The dengue situation keeps deteriorating in other cities as well.
The situation showed no immediate sign of improvement as the health authorities had to count growing number of new hospitalisations, certainly outside Dhaka.
The number of new patients getting admitted to hospitals continues to rise outside Dhaka as the DGHS reported 1,253 cases out of the new hospitalisations.
With the new fatalities, the death toll from the disease crossed 426, including 323 from Dhaka.
Last year, 281 people died due to dengue, the second highest in the history of the country.
Meanwhile, the total dengue cases rose to 89,875. Of the total cases, 44,396 were from Dhaka, added DGHS.
A total of 9,117 people were being treated in hospitals across the country. Of them, 4,010 were from Dhaka. Of the total admitted, 80,332 patients made recovery and returned home, and of the total, half of the recoveries are registered from Dhaka, 40,063 in number.
