Dengue claims eight more lives, 778 hospitalised

The dengue situation in Bangladesh continued to deteriorate as eight more deaths were reported from dengue in 24 hours till Sunday morning, raising the number of fatalities from the mosquito-borne disease in Bangladesh to 364 this year, reports UNB.
During the same period, 778 new patients were admitted to hospitals, raising the total number of dengue cases this year to 90,264, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
Three of the latest deaths were reported in the Mymensingh division, two in Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) and one each in Barishal, Dhaka and Chattogram Divisions.
Among this year's patients, 37.7 per cent were female and 62.3 per cent male, the report said.
Of the deceased, 51.9 per cent were men and 48.1 per cent were.
Last year, dengue claimed 575 lives, with 101,214 cases reported and 100,040 recovered.
