Dengue death toll crosses 300 in Aug
Disease grips entire country, 64 dists affected

Dengue fever claimed eight more lives in the past 24 hours until Monday morning, resulting in a total of 556 fatalities from the disease in the year.
Newly 2,331 dengue-positive patients were also hospitalised in the period, taking the total hospitalised cases to 1,16,842 this year.
The daily bulletin issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) revealed the figures.
Taking the latest death tolls into account, fatalities from the mosquito borne disease crossed the mark of three hundred alone in August.
The current month reported 305 deaths while July reported 204, June 34, and each of May and April reported two deaths.
According to the statistics of DGHS, August is being considered as deadliest month this year as the authorities logged 65,010 dengue cases till Monday (August 28).
Of the fresh cases, 918 were hospitalised in Dhaka and the remaining 1413 were taken to healthcare facilities outside the capital city.
Some 2,410 patients were also released from hospitals after treatment. The official figures also revealed that death toll was recorded at 0.7 per cent in Dhaka and 0.2 per cent in outside Dhaka in the year.
The deadly disease has surpassed all previous records this year in terms of positive cases and deaths.
Some 1405 patients were hospitalised in 2020, while 28, 429 in the next year and 62,382 in the following year.
Meanwhile BSS report adds: The authorities have recorded the highest number of dengue positive cases outside Dhaka in August this year meaning the mosquito disease gripped the entire country.
"Dhaka city witnessed 53,489 dengue positive cases between January 1 and August 26 this year while 58,695 cases were reported outside Dhaka during the same period," a statement of the DGHS said.
