Dengue toll crosses 1100 mark

The health authorities on Tuesday reported 13 additional deaths, including 9 from Dhaka city.
According to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) data, with the new deaths, the total fatalities rose to 1109, including 700 from Dhaka.
Meanwhile, 2,555 more people got admitted to hospitals in the past 24 hours till Tuesday morning 8:00 am, including 617 from Dhaka.
The total dengue cases this year rose to 228,779. Of the total, 89,460 were from Dhaka, according to DGHS daily update.
The fatalities and cases of hospitalization due to the deadly mosquito borne disease are highest in the last 23 years in the country.
Dengue appears to coincide with the rainy season from May to September and higher temperatures in Bangladesh, said the World Health Organization (WHO).
The ever worsening dengue situation showed no sign of improvement with the growing deaths and cases.
Furthermore, the health authorities also continued to report a growing number of new cases outside Dhaka. Of the new cases of hospitalization, 1,938 were reported from outside Dhaka.
A total of 8,602 people were being treated across the country in hospitals. Of them, 2,683 were from Dhaka.
Of the total admitted, 219,068 patients made recovery and returned home, including 86,077 from Dhaka with a 96 per cent recovery rate on average.
Last year, 281 people died due to dengue, the second highest in the history of the country.
