Dengue toll hits single-day high of 10 this year

Dengue fever claimed 10 more lives, the highest single-day fatalities of the year, across the country during the past 24 hours until Wednesday.
With the latest count, the death toll from the mosquito-borne disease crossed the 300-mark to reach 302 this year.
During the 24-hour period, some 1,069 new dengue patients were admitted to hospitals across the country taking the total hospitalisation cases to 74,992 in the calendar year.
Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) revealed the figures in its daily bulletin.
According to data available with the DGHS, this is the highest death record in a single day this year. Earlier, on September 21, the Directorate General of Health Services had announced the death of 12 people due to dengue, but later the DGHS clarified that three of those deaths occurred on the previous day or September 20. Besides nine death was also reported on October 5.
The figures were compiled based on reports from nationwide public and private hospitals.
Of the total, six deaths were reported in Dhaka city and the rest in other parts of the country. The list of victims also included five males.
According to the DGHS, 24 deaths were reported from dengue in November, 80 in October and 76 in September.
So far, some 71,487 patients have been released from hospital including 958 in the past 24 hours.
