Dengue toll nears 600 as 17 new deaths reported

The death toll from dengue fever since January in Bangladesh is approaching 600 mark as hospitals reported 17 new fatalities in a day.
As many as 342 deaths were recorded in August with one more day of the month left. The number of deaths from dengue this year stands at 593.
Some 2,308 were hospitalised across the country in the last 24 hours till Thursday morning, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) data.
Of the new 2,308 cases during last 24 hours, 875 were reported in Dhaka city and 1,433 were from various parts of the country.
A total of 8, 378 dengue patients, including 3,817 in the capital, are now receiving treatment at hospitals across the country.
So far, the DGHS has recorded 1, 23808 dengue cases, 11, 4837 recoveries.
The country logged 281 dengue deaths in 2022 - the highest on record after 179 deaths recorded in 2019. Also, it recorded 62,423 dengue cases and 61,971 recoveries last year.
