Dengue toll rises to 1086 with 7 new deaths

The health authorities on Sunday reported 7 additional deaths from dengue, including 2 from Dhaka city.
With the new deaths, the total fatalities rose to 1086, including 685 from Dhaka, said the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) in daily update.
Meanwhile, 2,742 more people admitted to hospitals in the past 24 hours till Sunday morning 8:00am, including 612 from Dhaka.
The total dengue cases this year rose to 223,564. Of the total, 88,194 were from Dhaka, according to DGHS daily update.
The fatalities and cases of hospitalization due to the deadly mosquito borne disease are highest in the last 23 years in the country.
Dengue appears to coincide with the rainy season from May to September and higher temperatures in Bangladesh, according to the World Health Organization (WHO).
The ever worsening dengue situation showed no sign of improvement with the growing deaths and cases.
Furthermore, the health authorities also continued to report a growing number of new cases outside Dhaka. Of the new cases of hospitalization, 2,130 were reported from outside Dhaka.
A total of 8,800 people were being treated across the country in hospitals. Of them, 2,826 were from Dhaka.
Of the total admitted, 213,678 patients made recovery and returned home, including 84,683 from Dhaka with a 96 per cent recovery rate on average.
Last year, 281 people died due to dengue, the second highest in the history of the country.
