The number of fresh dengue victims rose 17 per cent in the last 24 hours (until Sunday morning) after a decline on Saturday.
A total of 1,706 new patients were diagnosed dengue positive in the last 24 hours, whereas the number was 1,460 in the previous 24 hours.
Besides, a college student died of dengue at Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib General Hospital in Sirajganj on Saturday night, according to media reports.
The deceased was identified as Mehedi Hasan Mim Talukder, 17, an eleventh grader of Govt Haji Korop Ali Memorial Degree College.
He was the son of Aminul Islam Monnu Talukder of Haluakandi village in Kamarkhand upazila.
Of the new patients, 734 victims were hospitalised in the capital city, while the remaining 972 were admitted at different hospitals outside Dhaka, according to the data available with the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
However, 2,394 patients were released in last 24 hours, of whom 1,109 were in Dhaka and 1,285 were outside Dhaka.
So far this year, 53,182 dengue patients were hospitalised across the country until now, of whom 45,976 were released after treatment.
As per the DGHS statement, presently 7,168 dengue patients, including 3,668 in the capital, are admitted at different hospitals countrywide until Sunday morning.
