Denim show opens

A two-day denim show began Sunday at a city hotel to boost the denim apparel industry in Bangladesh.
Balaji Enterprises, an Indian company, is organising the show titled "3rd DenimsandJeans.com Bangladesh Show" to be concluded today (Monday).
Dr. Ferdinand Von Weyhe, Charge d'Affaires of the German Embassy in Dhaka, inaugurated the expo while A.K.M. Salim Osman, president of Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BKMEA), and Tapan Chowdhury, president of Bangladesh Textile Mills Association (BTMA) were special guests at the opening session, a statement said.
About 26 companies from seven countries including host Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, Germany, Turkey, Brazil and China are showcasing denim fabrics, products and modern machinery.
GIZ, the German development cooperation, on behalf of the German federal ministry of economic cooperation and development (BMZ), is the technical partner of this event.
Different brands, buying houses, apparel entrepreneurs, fashion professionals, stakeholders and companies related to technology, chemicals and piece dyes of the industry from Europe, USA, UK and some Asian countries are the invitees at the event.
Sandeep Agarwal of Balaji Enterprises said, "Our endeavor is to ensure that the Denimsandjeans.com Bangladesh Show enables to bring increased focus of international buyers for their mass and niche needs to textile and apparel."
The show is named after his denim website: www.denimsandjeans.com.
A panel discussion will be organised today by GIZ on "Development Prospects in Denim Production- the Way Forward" at the show.
The discussion will address the environmental and occupational health issues involved in denim manufacturing and the prospects and opportunities.
