FE Report
Leaders of the Hindu community sought deployment of additional police force at the Puja Mandaps in the city during the upcoming Durga Puja festival.
The leaders of several puja committees made the plea in a meeting with Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) commissioner AKM Shahidul Haq and other senior police officers at the police headquarters Sunday.
A total of 172 Puja Mandaps would be set up at different parts of the city, up by seven from those of the previous year.
They expressed their concern over security at Puja Mandaps at Sutrapur, Hazaribagh and Dhanmondi and requested the DMP boss to deploy additional policemen in those areas.
The DMP commissioner assured them of taking all necessary steps to ensure a peaceful law and order situation in the city so that they can observe the biggest festival of the Hindu community.
He said the total security plan will be drawn within a short time based on the recommendations which came from such meetings.
Another senior police official told the FE that the total security measures would be monitored from the central control room to be set up at Dhakeswari Temple.
