Deposition deferred till July 27

A Dhaka court on Wednesday deferred until July 27 the recording of deposition against BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia in the Zia Charitable Trust and Zia Orphanage Trust graft cases. Special Judge’s Court-3 Judge Basudev Roy fixed the date following a time petition. Earlier, the Supreme Court fixed July 13 to hear two civil miscellaneous petitions filed by BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia against a High Court order in the two cases. Chamber Judge Justice Foez Siddique of the Appellate Division fixed the date on Tuesday. On Monday, Khaleda filed four petitions with the Supreme Court against two High Court orders in connection with the two graft cases. On March 19, Judge Basudev Roy of the Dhaka’s Special Judge Court-3 framed charges against Khaleda Zia, her son and BNP’s Senior Vice Chairman Tarique Rahman and seven other people after rejecting their time petition in the cases. On August 8, 2011, the ACC filed the Zia Charitable Trust graft case with Tejgaon Police Station accusing four people, including Khaleda Zia. Besides, the ACC filed the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case on July 3, 2008 with Ramna Police Station accusing Khaleda, her eldest son Tarique Rahman and four others for misappropriating over Tk 21 million, according to a news agency.
