Deposition of witnesses begins in corruption case against Tarique

A special judge's court of Dhaka Tuesday began recording deposition of prosecution witnesses in corruption case against BNP leader Tarique Rahman in his absence, reports UNB. Complainant Mohammad Ibrahim of Anti-corruption Commission (ACC) deposed in the court in support of the case he filed on October 20, 2009. Tarique's business partner Giasuddin Al Mamoon, co-accused in the case, was standing in the dock. The ACC official submitted that the accused extracted Tk 2.04 milion as speed money from Khadiza Islam, Managing Diorector of Nirman Construction for awarding a contract for construction of an 80mw power plant at Tongi. The money was transacted when BNP was in power.
