Depression over southeast Bay to intensify into cyclone
FE REPORT | Monday, 21 March 2022
The well-marked low over southeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining south Andaman Sea intensified into a 'depression' over the same area, according to a met office official.
AKM Nazmul Haque, a meteorologist of Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD), told the FE that it was likely to intensify further and move in a north/northeasterly direction.
The depression is likely to turn into deep depression and then it may turn into a 'cyclone', he said.
However, there is no possibility of the cyclone hitting Bangladesh; rather it is likely to strike northern Myanmar, Haque said.
Maritime ports of Chattogram, Cox's Bazar, Mongla and Payra have been asked to hoist distant cautionary signal no. one (R), he added.
A met office bulletin also said dry weather was likely to continue over the country.
Mild heat wave is sweeping over Rajshahi, Dhaka and Khulna divisions and the districts of Rangamati, Chandpur, Feni, Sylhet, Dinajpur, Panchagarh, Nilphamari and Patuakhali, said the bulletin, adding that this weather pattern might continue.
Day and night temperatures may remain nearly unchanged over the country, according to the bulletin.
