Valiant freedom fighter and poet, Belal Mohammad, who has been deprived of his due benefits even after 15 year of retirement from the government service, has urged the chief adviser, Fakhruddin Ahmed, to look into his case.
"I would urge the chief adviser of the neutral caretaker government to resolve my case which remained pending for over the last 15 years," Belal said.
Belal went on LPR in 1993 as the then prime minister did not sign the summary sent to the Prime Minister's Office by the Departmental Promotion Committee of the Ministry of Information to promote him to the post of director.
Belal sought the intervention of the Administrative Tribunal as service rules and gazette notifications published several times in the past had not been considered in determining his seniority.
"Of late, I got the verdict of Administrative Tribunal in my favour. In line with the verdict, a summary was sent to the then Prime Minister for approval on March 28, 1993 to promote me," Belal said.
He further said: "I was expected to be promoted as director getting 12 increments with fixation and other benefits if the summary was approved by the then prime minister."
Belal went on retirement in April 1994 after passing a year's Leave Preparatory to Retirement that began in April 1993.
"It is now clear to me why the then prime minister did not give his approval. The reason is the debate over the so-called announcer of Bangladesh independence," he alleged.
Incidentally, he claimed: "Following my request Major Ziaur Rahman came to Kalurghat Betar Kendra on March 27, 1971 and decided to declare independence of Bangladesh on behalf of Bangabandhu."
"Zia took my comment on the draft of the statement he announced on behalf of Bangabandhu," he also claimed.
"In my memoirs since 1972, I stated the fact. Even a number of stories were published during Zia's regime in this connection. There is no different view even among my colleagues of Shwadhin Bangla Betar Kendra and known fellow war heroes as to what I said about the announcement of the Independence of Bangladesh," Belal said.
"I was never involved in any political activities during my 29-year of service tenure," he said.
He expressed the hope that the neutral caretaker government will take initiative to consider his case.
