The candidates deprived of recruitment Saturday made an earnest request to the government to save their families from unbearable sufferings by restoring appointments to 536 posts of sub-inspector (SI) of police and 221 posts of sergeant immediately.
Placing the aforesaid demand, the candidates at a press conference at Dhaka University Journalists' Association (DUJA) Saturday noon alleged that the incumbent inspector general of police (IGP) whimsically directed cancellation of their appointments raising allegations of bribe and corruption in the recruitment process.
"The IGP has got our appointments annulled without approval of the ministry concerned. Instead of identifying those who had indulged in corruption, the IGP has cancelled our appointments imposing the liability of the so-called corruption on us", said SM Sujon Chowdhury, one of the 757 deprived candidates.
Chowdhury in his written speech claimed the allegations brought against their appointments were totally false, fabricated and baseless. He said most of their appointment process had been completed during the term of the then IGP and present adviser Anwarul Iqbal who was known as an honest, righteous and skilled person in every quarter.
The appointments of 536 SIs and 221 sergeants were finalised through medical test and police verification on November 5 in 2006 in line with the advertisement for the same published on April 14 in 2005.
