Despite ban on politics, parties can sit with EC: Dr Kamal

GAZIPUR, Sept 6 (UNB): Nobody is above law. Accused will undergo trial in accordance with the investigation report and they should accept the verdict of the court.
This was stated by eminent jurist Kamal Hossain here Thursday in an oblique reference to former prime ministers Khaleda Zia and Sheikh Hasina who were arrested on charge of corruption.
He said people were closely watching what steps their parties take about the leaders detained in graft cases.
On proposed dialogue with the Election Commission (EC), Kamal, also president of Gano Forum, said despite ban on indoor politics, political parties can sit with EC for discussion on reforms.
Talking to newsmen before attending a reception he said his party was in favour of dialogue with EC. But he urged for facilitating an atmosphere congenial for free, frank and meaningful discussion.
About continuation of emergency for a long period the Gono Forum president said there was democracy but no rule of law before declaring the emergency.
Steps are on to restore rule of law. "Now we are in a process of electing honest, qualified and efficient candidates in polls."
