Destiny distributors demand licence

FE Report | Tuesday, 9 September 2014

A section of distributors of the beleaguered Destiny-2000 Ltd demanded licence from the government to do MLM (multi-level marketing) business in the country.
The demand was made at a press conference held at Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) where the distributors said they also demanded of the government to give its clearance certificate after releasing the company's property considering the fate of 4.5 million clients of the Destiny Group.
One of them, Sharmin Akhter Swarna, read out a written speech at the press conference. Present among others were Ferdousi Haque, Faria Mahboob, Firoz Alam and Nasrin Azad.
Destiny Distributors' Forum Secretary-General Razib Mitra moderated the press meet.
The press conference was told that clients of the Destiny Group had made their investment consciously in its activities and no clients had filed any complaint against the MLM company.
Moreover, the National Board of Revenue (NBR) has no complaint either against Destiny Group regarding income tax and value- added tax (VAT).
They also mentioned that market value of Destiny property is around Tk 70 billion, and those valuable assets are being destroyed and looted as well.
Responding to a query, the distributors said the government enacted a law in relation to MLM business following the emergence of Destiny.
"But, being a pioneer in the field of MLM business, Destiny is being deprived of licence. It's an injustice," Mr. Mitra said.
He holds the hope that the company will be able to bounce back if it gets MLM licence.
