In a special drive, detectives arrested some 56 suspected muggers from different areas of the capital on Tuesday night, reports UNB.
One Chinese axe, three machetes and two knives were also recovered from their possession.
Briefing reporters at the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Media Centre on Wednesday, Detective Branch Joint Commissioner Abdul Baten said the special drive was simultaneously conducted in different areas of the city following media reports that the incidents of mugging increased in the capital.
Of them, six were arrested while taking preparation for committing crimes, he said.
In most cases, mugging occurs while passengers are heading towards bus stands and railway stations, Baten said.
