Deutsche Telekom in talks to sell British unit

Sunday, 6 September 2009

FRANKFURT, Sept 5 (AFP): The German group Deutsche Telekom has opened talks with three potential buyers of its struggling British unit T-Mobile UK, the Financial Times newspaper reported Friday.
Without citing its source, the paper said the three companies were Vodafone of Britain, France Telecom and Spain's Telefonica.
Vodafone and Telefonica had no comment on the report.
But France Telecom told AFP it was "not interested in making an offer for T-Mobile UK."
A study cited by the Financial Times said T-Mobile UK had the weakest market share -- 14.9 per cent-of all major providers in Britain, after 27.7 per cent for O2, a Telefonica subsidiary, and 21.5 per cent for France Telecom/Orange.
