Dev plans should be based on public interests: PM

Criticising the mindset of ministers and MPs in undertaking development programmes prioritising their respective areas or homes, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said development plans should be taken considering the highest benefit of the common people at the low cost. “Ministers, lawmakers and those powerful try to approve development programmes like roads or railway tracks construction beside their homes but development plans should be undertaken considering the highest benefit of the common people,” she said. The Prime Minister said this at the 20th National Conference and 38th Council Session of the Institution of Diploma Engineers, Bangladesh (IDEB) at IDEB building on Wednesday. “Despite economic constraints, we could move the country forward with proper planning…we’ve reduced our dependency on others. We would stand on our own feet, ensure development of our own not beginning from others,” she added, according to a news agency.
