Latest revenue rules are being bent to allow authorised representatives to assist taxpayers in online tax-return submission to make the process faster and simpler.
The National Board of Revenue (NBR) is going to launch Tax Representative Management System (TRMS) software for the third party, tax lawyers and Income-tax practitioner so that they can fill in online tax returns with the consent of respective taxpayers.
The TRMS is homespun software developed by income-tax officials and IT programmers of the NBR.
Finance Adviser Dr Salehuddin Ahmed will inaugurate the software (TRMS (https://trms.nbr.gov.bd/) Sunday at the NBR headquarters' multipurpose hall.
Talking to the FE, NBR Chairman Abdur Rahman Khan termed TRMS a "significant milestone" in government effort to simplify tax-return submission.
"Tax lawyers have experiences on filing tax returns so they are capable enough to assist taxpayers to fill up and submit online tax returns," he added. An authorised person will be allowed to submit tax returns of their clients in the TRMS which would be preserved in his name in the system.
The NBR is also starting imparting training to the taxpayers to submit online tax returns, he added.
The NBR issues approval to the ITPs through a rigorous selection process so that they can assist taxpayers in filing tax returns without errors and following the tax laws.
The authorised persons will have to register the TRMS software to submit tax returns on behalf of the taxpayers.
Taxpayers can also give authorisation to any NBR-recognised tax lawyer or ITP by sharing OTPs (registered in biometric system in taxpayers' mobile phone) to submit their tax returns.
The AR or tax lawyers can collect the information on those tax returns anytime from the system. They would be registered digitally and must have authorisation from taxpayers.
As per the modus operandi framed by the government's revenue authority, every tax representative will preserve each of the tax returns separately in the TRMS.
