DGHS logs 11 new dengue deaths

The daily death toll from dengue fever was recorded at 11, including five in Dhaka, in 24 hours until Friday morning, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
With this additional figure, the total casualties from the mosquito-borne disease have reached 1,317 including 798 in Dhaka.
During the same period, 1,802 hospitalisations were recorded across the country, 409 of them in Dhaka, as reported by DGHS.
Unfortunately, the dengue situation continues to worsen, with growing numbers of deaths and infections.
The health authorities are also witnessing an increase in new cases outside Dhaka, with DGHS reporting 1,066 new hospitalisations in these areas. The report estimates that the mortality rate among hospitalised patients is approximately 0.5 per cent.
Last year, 281 people died due to dengue, the second highest in the history of the country.
Meanwhile, the total number of dengue cases has risen to 264,062 with Dhaka alone accounting for 97,620 cases, according to DGHS.
Currently, there are 6,798 patients receiving treatment in hospitals across the country with 1,929 of them in Dhaka. Of the total number of patients admitted, 255,947 have recovered and returned home, including 94,893 in Dhaka.
