DGM of KGDCL gets bail, wife sent to jail

CHATTOGRAM, Sept 06 (UNB): A Chattogram court on Tuesday granted bail to Anis Uddin, deputy general manager of Karnaphuli Gas Distribution Company Limited (KGDCL) in a graft case.
Chattogram Metropolitan Session Judge Begum Jebunnessa passed the order when he surrendered before the court and sought bail.
The court also sent Quamrunnahar Poly, wife of Anis, to jail after rejecting her bail petition in the graft case.
Advocate Mahmudul Haque, the public prosecutor, said the couple secured bail from the High Court in the case. Today, they surrendered before the court and sought bail.
According to the case statement, on August 21, 2011, Anis Uddin, being a government official, established a developer company named 'Rock Properties'. His wife Quamrunnahar and Nesar Ahmed, owner of a contractor firm M/s Metco Construction, registered with Karnaphuli Gas. He also made a deal with M/s Nur Syndicate, which violated the Public Service Act.
While investigating, ACC found transactions worth Tk 4.95 crore from the bank account of Quamrunnahar and she now has Tk 1.75 crore in her six bank accounts which will be frozen soon.
