Friday, 23 July 2010
Dhaka Abahani Limited stayed in the title race of the Green Delta Metropolis Premier Division Hockey League beating Sonali Bank SRC by 2-1 goals at the Maulana Bhasani National Hockey Stadium in the city Wednesday, reports UNB.
Tariq Aziz put Abahani ahead in the 10th minute by a field goal (1-0) while Moshiur Rahman Biplob doubled the margin in the 14th minute, also by a field goal(2-0).
Rana Jubair Riaz scored the lone goal for Sonali Bank from a penalty corner (21) in the 29th minute.
After recess on Friday, the popular sky-blue Dhanmondi outfit Abahani will play their black-white rivals Dhaka Mohammedan SC in a high voltage last league match on Saturday at 4:pm at the same venue.
Mohammedan SC, which maintained all-win record in the league securing full 36 points from straight 12 matches, needed just a draw to clinch the title.
Abahani Limited, having 33 points from 12 encounters with one defeat (0-3) against Mohammedan in the first phase, required a victory to stay in the title race. If Abahani wins on Saturday, they have to meet Mohammedan again in a title-deciding play-off match.
