Dhaka also to see strong movement this time: Khaleda

Thursday, 18 December 2014

Renewing her call for her party men to get ready to hit the streets anytime within a short notice, BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia on Thursday said this time there will be a strong movement in the capital city as well to realise their demand for a snap election under a non-party administration. "I want to tell the student leaders only chanting slogans, clapping and hurling abuses at others are not enough. You all must get ready and take to the streets together at the right time," she said. Addressing a convention of pro-BNP student leaders of Ducsu and All Party Students Unity (Apsu) of the 90s, she further said, "This time the streets of Dhaka won't remain calm and empty. You all will have to be there on the streets braving bullets, teargas and all other repressive acts. I also call upon mothers and sisters to join us stopping shedding tears and screams." Student leaders of Ducsu and Apsu of the 90s arranged the programme at the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh. Recalling the role of the student leaders of the 90s in the anti-Ershad movement, Khaleda said though she and the student leaders now turned old, they have still enough courage to hit the streets to pull down the current 'autocratic regime'. "Everything is possible if there’s courage. I'm even ready to sacrifice my life for democracy." The BNP chief also asked the government to stop killings, enforced disappearances and police firing. "People are this time ready to give a reply to police firing." Don't open fire at people any more," according to a news agency.
