Dhaka assures help to Thai police

Bangladesh has assured the Thai police authorities of “all out cooperation” in tracing the activities of the Bangkok bomb blast suspect during his two weeks stay in Dhaka. Records of the Bangladesh embassy in Bangkok showed the alleged mastermind had entered Bangladesh on August 16, the day before the Erawan Shrine blast, on a single entry tourist visa issued weeks before. He left the country on Aug 30, before Bangladesh authorities received information from Bangkok law enforcement agencies. The embassy on Saturday said Ambassador Saida Muna Tasneem had a meeting with the Royal Thai Police spokesperson on Friday afternoon where she conveyed Dhaka’s position on the issue. She also informed about Dhaka’s zero-tolerance policy to any form of terrorism during the meeting with assistant chief of Thai police Gen Prawut Thavornsiri at the police headquarters in Bangkok. She informed him that Bangladesh law enforcers would also work with Interpol to track down any information that would help bring the suspect to justice. The Royal Thai Police spokesperson thanked Bangladesh Ambassador for sharing “important and useful information” and expressed Thailand's resolve to work closely with Bangladesh to track down the alleged suspect. He also appreciated Bangladesh's counter-terrorism laws and requested continued sharing of information in the case. Both sides agreed on the “importance of creating a bilateral mechanism for sharing information and intelligence on security issues”, according to bdnews24.com.
