Dhaka Bank launches new savings tool

FE Report | Monday, 9 March 2009

Dhaka Bank Limited Sunday launched a new product, Bundled Savings Account, offering its customers attractive interest rate and transparent services.

The bank announced it at a 'meet the press' programme organised at a city hotel.

It will provide attractive interest on a monthly basis instead of half-yearly.

Apart from this, clients of the new product will get free cheque books, free credit card and automated teller machine (ATM) card, free SMS and internet banking.

However, the new product has three categories--platinum, gold and silver.

Speaking at the launching ceremony, its Deputy Managing Director Kaiser Tamiz Amin said the savings product is unique in Bangladesh and these products are attractive because of the interest rate and the monthly payment system.

Bank officials said platinum account holders will get 8.5 per cent interest, gold account holders 7.5 per cent and silver account holders 7.0 per cent.

For the interest to be paid, the required minimum balance of a platinum account is Tk 100,000. The minimum balance is Tk 50,000 for a gold account and Tk 30,000 for a silver account.

The interest will be calculated on daily balances. If at the end of the day the balance of an account falls below the minimum, the client will lose the interest for that day.

A platinum account holder will be able to withdraw money 12 times a month, a gold account holder eight times and a silver account holder four times.

A platinum account holder will get three cheque books totalling 150 leaves free per year. A gold account holder will get two cheque books totalling 100 leaves and a silver account holder one cheque book of 50 leaves free per year.

The yearly fee on a platinum account has been fixed at Tk 5,000. The fee on a gold account is Tk 3500 and a silver account Tk 2500.

Dhaka Bank Vice President and in-charge of retail banking Shah Azizul Islam, First Vice President and in-charge of sales and marketing Md Emtiaz Uddin and other senior officials were present at the launching ceremony.
