Dhaka Bank, Mercantile Bank appointed principal agents of Western Union

The Western Union Company, a worldwide leader in money transfer services, Tuesday announced the signup of two new Principal Agents - Dhaka Bank & Mercantile Bank to offer the Western UnionĀ® Money TransferSM service in Bangladesh.
Dhaka Bank, an existing Sub Agent in the Western Union network is being upgraded to a Principal Agent. Along with its Sub Agents, Dhaka Bank adds 200 new Agent locations to Western Union's Bangladesh network. Similarly, Mercantile Bank and its Sub Agents join the Western Union network with 125 Agent locations, said a press release.
"We are proud to welcome Dhaka Bank & Mercantile Bank to the Western Union Agent network. These new additions will help us better serve more than 6.5 million* Bangladeshis staying outside the country & they are sending their hard earned money to their dependents, relative, friends & family members staying in the country," said Anil Kapur, Senior Vice President, South & South East Asia, Western Union.
Dhaka Bank has been an active Sub Agent offering the Western Union service under the Principal Agent, Brac Bank Limited. With its two new Sub Agents, NGOs- Padakkhep and PAGE, Dhaka Bank now adds 200 new Agent locations, in addition to its own 41 branches on the Western Union network.
Mercantile Bank, a decade old commercial Bank is a new entrant to the Western Union network, With an own branch network of 42 branches and three service centres, Mercantile Bank along with its Sub Agents will add a total of 125 new Western Union Agent locations across Bangladesh.
"Both these Banks are actively engaged in helping consumers receive remittances from abroad. Their addition to the Western Union network, enables us to reach out to consumers who are already being serviced by these prominent Banks and their Sub Agents," adds Ratheesh Kumar, Regional Vice President, South Asia & South East Asia.
