Dhaka-Colombo air link likely soon

Direct air link between Dhaka and Colombo is likely to be re-introduced soon as Bangladesh and Sri Lanka finalised an air services agreement, reports UNB.
Sri Lankan Foreign Minister Rohitha Bogollagama told this to journalists after a meeting with Foreign Adviser Dr Iftekhar Ahmed Chowdhury at the latter's office in the city Sunday.
Bangladesh and Sri Lanka were in negotiations for long to re-establish the direct air conductivity, but the differences of opinion on the possible routes have delayed the process.
Now the two countries agreed on Colombo-Dhaka-Kathmandu routes and vice versa.
"We expect our national careers will soon take advantage of flying directly from Colombo to Dhaka," Bogollagama said.
Asked if the air link could be resumed before the next SAARC summit in Colombo to be held on August 2-3, the Sri Lankan Foreign Minister said they are trying to encourage the Sri Lankan airlines soon to take the advantage offered by the Bangladesh government.
Official sources here said Biman Bangladesh Airlines might not operate through the route because of its constraints including inadequate number of aircraft.
