Dhaka-Colombo JWG meet ends
FE Report | Thursday, 20 February 2014
The two-day Bangladesh and Sri Lanka joint working group (JWG) meeting ended in Dhaka Wednesday with a call to boost bilateral trade and investment, sources said.
The two sides signed the minutes of the meeting where formation of a joint study group to examine the template for signing preferential trade agreement (PTA) was decided.
Joint secretary of Bangladesh's commerce ministry Shahabuddin Patwary and Sri Lankan director general of commerce RDS Kumararatne signed the meeting proceeds on behalf of their respective governments.
On the concluding day no side raised anything further other than the issues discussed previous day. "The leftover issues will be raised and discussed by the joint study group," said a participant of the meeting.
Earlier on Tuesday the two sides, besides agreeing to sign the PTA, also discussed removal of tariff and non-tariff barriers which hinders bilateral trade.
