Dhaka courts summon Latif Siddiqui
Wednesday, 1 October 2014
Two Dhaka courts have summoned Posts and Telecommunications Minister Abdul Latif Siddiqui over his remarks on Holy Hajj and Tabligh jamaat. The ruling party leader has been told to appear and explain his recent comments at the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's Court on October 28 over the plea filed by lawyer AMM Abed Raza on Wednesday. He must again appear before another court on Oct 30 in another case filed over hurting religious sentiments by East Islambagh businessman Md Badal Miah. The minister, speaking at an event organised by expatriate Bangladeshis in New York, said he was against Hajj and Tabligh jamaat. ‘So much manpower is wasted over Hajj. Two million people are now in Saudi Arabia for Hajj. They have no work or role in production. They only eat and go abroad using the country’s money,’ he said. The video clip of him making the statement was widely circulated on social media, according to bdnews24.com.
