Dhaka crush Sylhet by innings, 34 runs

A five-wicket haul by spinner Mehrab Hossain Jr steered holders Dhaka Division to an innings and 34 runs victory over Sylhet Division on the 3rd day of the 2nd round four-day match of Ispahani Mirzapore Tea 9th National Cricket League at the Shaheed Chandu Stadium in Bogra Friday.
With this first victory, the defending champions secured full 16 points, including eight bonus points while Sylhet Division only managed three bonus points.
After being forced to follow on, Sylhet Division resumed their 2nd innings today with overnight 1 for no loss in 0.2 overs and could manage to score 221 for all in 72.3 overs.
Both the overnight openers did not last long as Golam Rahman 24 and Imtiaz Hossain 11 went cheaply.
Tail-ender Nazmul Hossain emerged the highest scorer for Sylhet with not out 45 runs off 104 balls with three fours and a six while Enamul Huq Jr. made 2nd highest 36 off 40 balls with four fours.
Skipper Rajin Saleh with 32 and Alok Kapali 29 were the other notable scorers for the losers.
Mehrab claimed five wickets for 43 runs in 18 overs to be adjudged man of the match while spinner Mosharraf Hossain Rubel grabbed three wickets for 86 runs in 29.3 overs.
Earlier, on Saturday, Sylhet Division were forced to follow on as they were bundled out for 96 in the first innings, replying to Dhaka Division's 1st innings total of 351 for 9 (dec).
At the Rajshahi Divisional Stadium, Barisal Division, forced to follow on, is almost inching towards a defeat as they took only overall 2 runs lead with just one wicket in hand against the hosts, scoring 216 for 9 in 96 overs in their 2nd innings.
Number five Raisul Islam scored team highest 52 runs off 121 balls with five fours while number 10 Talha Jubair hammered 45 runs off 43 balls with five fours and two sixes.
Ali Arman not out 23 and Sajedul Islam not out 9 will resume the visitors 2nd innings today (Monday).
Spinner Suhrawardy Shuvo scalped three wickets for 66 runs in 33 overs while pacer Mohammad Shahzada and medium pacer Farhad Reza took two wickets each.
