Thursday, 1 May 2014

Supporters of Narayanganj City Councillor Nazrul Islam, whose decomposed body was found in Shitalakhya River in Narayanganj district on Wednesday, have removed their blockade on Dhaka-Chittagong highway. Police, however, kept the road closed till Thursday morning. Siddhirganj Police Station OC Abdul Matin said that the road would be reopened after 10am today after the second namaj-e-janaza of Nazrul is held. The vehicles on the highway took the route through Demra on Wednesday night, he said. Protesters on Wednesday night set fire to a filling station at Siddhirganj’s Mouchak during demonstrations there. Awami League-backed councillor Nazrul Islam was abducted along with four of his aides by men posing as Rab personnel on Sunday. He was among the six decomposing bodies found floating on the river at Narayanganj’s Bandar Upazila on Wednesday, according to bdnews24.com.
