Dhaka-Ctg rail link snapped

Thursday, 4 December 2014

Dhaka's rail communications with the port city of Chittagong remained suspended from Thursday morning following the derailment of a train in Sadar Dakkhin Upazila of Comilla district. However, no casualty was reported in the incident which took place in Jangalia area around 9:50am. The mishap also snapped Chittagong’s rail communications with the north-eastern divisional city of Sylhet. Abdul Hamid, assistant engineer of Comilla Railway Station, said a compartment of the Chittagong-bound ‘Jalalabad Express’ train from Sylhet veered off the railway tracks in Jangalia, halting train movement on the Dhaka and Sylhet routes towards Chittagong. A relief train from Laksam Railway junction has started and is expected to reach the spot within 2 hours to salvage the derailed train, according to a news agency.
