Dhaka-Ctg rail link snapped 2nd time in a day

Chittagong’s rail communications with the rest of Bangladesh, including Dhaka city, halted for the second time in a day as an inter-city train derailed in Comilla’s Brahmanpara on Tuesday. The station master of Shashidal Railway Station in Brahmanpara said the engine and two coaches of Dhaka-bound ‘Mahanagar Godhuli’ train veered off the tracks at the rail station around 10:30pm, halting movement of train in the Chittagong-Dhaka, Chittagong Sylhet and Chittagong Noakhali routes. Station Master Mujibur Rahman said there were no reports of casualties. He said a relief train from Akhaura Railway Junction started for the accident scene at around 11:30pm. The accident took place 14 hours after another passenger train hit a covered van (lorry), stranded on the railway tracks in Barabkunda under Sitakunda Upazila of Chittagong district. The train-truck collision, which occurred around 5:30am, left the helper of the lorry dead. The services had resumed after 6 hours of halt around 11am after one side of the railway tracks in Barabkunda Rail Station was cleared by a relief train that arrived at the scene from the port city around 7am, according to a news agency.
