Dhaka-Delhi sea border talks start today

Monday, 15 September 2008

Bangladesh and India start maritime border talks, for the first time in 28 years, with a view to demarcating sea-boundaries between the two countries. Additional Foreign Secretary MAK Mahmood will lead the Bangladesh side in the three-day conference starting today (Monday). A 7-member Indian delegation, led by Rear Admiral BR Rao, arrived in the city Sunday afternoon. Bangladesh has also initiated maritime border talks with Myanmar. According to the United Nations Convention on Law of the Sea (UNCLOS), Bangladesh must demarcate its sea-boundaries by 2011, and India by 2009.—bdnews24.com
