Dhaka Dental College paralysed due to strike
Tuesday, 11 November 2008
Academic activities as well as medical treatment at Dhaka Dental College in Mirpur-14 remained suspended since Wednesday last due to strike enforced by students, reports UNB.
Students of the college, a government institution, enforced the strike demanding the withdrawal of a case filed against them.
A case was filed against 35/40 resident students of college hostel at Sobhanbagh in 2006 following lynching of an alleged thief in a mass beating for stealing students' belongings from the dormitory.
The students termed the case against them 'false' saying that they were not involved in the incident. The students went for the strike as police raided different places to nab the accused following a local court in August this year issued warrants of arrest against seven students.
Sources said college teachers and staff also have expressed their solidarity with the demand of students.
Meanwhile, Director of Medical Education of DG Health Office, Prof Shefayet Ullah Sunday visited the college and talked to the students for solving the deadlock.
The students told the director that they would continue the strike until the realisation of their demand.
