Dhaka Division clinched the title of the 12th National Cricket League beating holders Barisal Division by three wickets in the final at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in the city Sunday, reports UNB.
It was the 3rd one-day National Cricket League title for Dhaka Division since its inception in 2001-02.
Batting first after winning the toss, Barisal Division fell early batting jolt in the face of discipline bowling attack by some Dhaka Division's bowlers. They were restricted to 221 runs for 9 wickets in stipulated 50 overs.
Barisal Division plunged into a trouble losing their first three wickets - openers Fazle Rabbi (14), national color Shahriar Nafees (6) and one down Hannan Sarkar (20) - as the team's total stuck at 57 for 3 in 17.3 overs.
But, middle orders Shahin Hossain and Asif Ahmed took the responsibility to repair the early damage contributing 87 runs in the 4th wicket stand.
Shahin scored 40 runs off 87 balls with two fours while Asif Ahmed made 48 runs off 57 balls that featured two fours both were trapped leg before wicket by part-time bowler Mohammad Ashraful.
After the quick departure of the two set batsmen, Ariful Haqoe played a hurricane innings to accelerate Barisal's run rate. He cracked four fours and one six in his 35 runs off 19 balls.
Tail-ender Mohammad Sajib smashed 19 runs off 14 balls with four fours to remain unbeaten till the end of the innings.
National pacer Sahadat Hossain Rajib caused the major damage grabbing four wickets for 39 runs while Mohammad Ashraful scalped two wickets for 14 runs.
Chasing the total, Dhaka Division, number seven batsman Elias Sunny's unconquered half century, reached to their target of 222 runs in 48 overs for the loss of seven wickets.
Sunny, who was adjudged the player of the match for his match-winning innings, confirmed the Dhaka Division's triumph contributing 87 runs off 79 balls with nine fours and two sixes after national color Mahmudullah Riad's patient knock of 53 runs off 80 balls.
Beside, opener Anamul Haque (27), former national skipper Mohammad Ashraful (12) and Shamsur Rahman (10) were the other contributors for Dhaka Division.
Monir Hossain claimed three wickets for 44 runs while Fazle Rabbi took two wickets conceding 34 runs.
Mohammad Ashraful of Dhaka Division was adjudged the player of the series for his all through performance in the league.
