Dhaka infernos claim 268 lives in 14 years

A total of 268 people perished in four devastating fires, including the latest one at Bailey Road, in Dhaka city in the last 14 years.
The fire incidents at Nimtali and Churihatta in old Dhaka and FR Tower at Banani are still fresh in the memory of Dhaka residents. Besides, fires at Bangabazar and New Market had caused extensive damage to goods and properties.
Nimtali tragedy
On June 03, 2010, a total of 124 people died, 50 more were injured and 23 houses and shops gutted at Nimtali, near Chankharpool, in a devastating fire originating from an exploding power transformer.
Churihatta fire
More than 70 people were charred to death and several thousand received injuries in a fire caused by an explosion in a chemical store at Churihatta in the Chawkbazar area of old Dhaka on February 20, 2019.
F R Tower
A big fire in a multi-storied building---F R Tower---claimed the lives of 27 people and injured more than 100 on March 28, 2019.
Bailey Road blaze
Thursday's fire at Bailey Road took away 46 lives. Twelve more are now admitted to Sheikh Hasina Burn Institute and Dhaka Medical College Hospital fighting a hard battle to survive.
