The third Dhaka International Telecom Fair 2009 kicks off today (Monday) at the city's Bangladesh China Friendship Conference Center with a theme of 'Growing Towards a Digital Bangladesh'.
Bangladesh Mobilephone Businessmen Association (BMBA) is the organizer of the event.
However, the five-day Telecom Fair will be officially inaugurated tomorrow (Tuesday) by President Zillur Rahman, a press conference held in a city hotel disclosed this Sunday in the city.
Minister for Posts and Telecommunications Raziuddin Ahmed Raju, Prime Minister's private sector adviser Salman F Rahman and Abul Kashem Ahmed, first vice president of Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) will be present as special guests in the inaugural session.
"The main objective of the fair is to help build a modern technology based digital Bangladesh," said BMBA president Eng. Md. Nizam Uddin Jitu.
He said that the fair would help create new business scopes for different mobile phone operators, importers of mobile handset and accessories, distributors and telecommunication institution.
Nizam Uddin said all the preparation for the fair has been completed.
A total of 73 companies will participate in the fair.
There will be 69 stalls, nine pavilions, four Mega pavilions and one special pavilion in the fair.
The fair will remain open for all today at 2 pm and rest of the days it will open from 10 am to 9 pm. The entry fee is Tk 20 per person.
The organizers said Faruk Khan, minister for Commerce as chief guest and Yafes Osman, state minister for Science and Information, Communication and Technology as special guest will be present at the closing ceremony.
Among others, Syed Margub Morshed, former chairman of Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) and chief adviser of BMBA, Abul Kashem Ahmed, first vice president of FBCCI, Md. Kohinoor Islam, director in charge of standing committee on Telecommunication, post and courier of FBCCI and Md. Rajjab Sharif, managing director of Sharif Melamine Industries Ltd were present at the press conference.
