Dhaka, Male sign deal on health sector cooperation

The government on Tuesday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Maldives, aiming to enhance cooperation between the two countries in the areas of healthcare, medical science and medicine. State minister for health and family welfare Zahid Malik and Maldives junior minister for health Hussain Rasheed inked the deal on behalf of their respective sides at the city’s Sonargaon Hotel. The signing ceremony was held on the sidelines of the 32nd Meeting of Health Ministers of WHO’s South-East Asia Region that began in Dhaka earlier in the day. Under the agreement, physicians of Bangladesh and Maldives will exchange their experiences and knowledge to improve the healthcare system in the two countries while students of the Maldives will get opportunities to get admitted to medical and nursing collages in Bangladesh. Bangladesh can also export medicine to the Maldives, while the island nation can hire physicians and nurses from Bangladesh. On April 8, 2013, the health ministers of Bangladesh and the Maldives held a bilateral meeting here and decided to sign an agreement to enhance cooperation in health sector, according to UNB.
