Dhaka Metropolis earn six-wicket victory over Rajshahi

Newcomer Dhaka Metropolis team made a good start in the four-day 13th National Cricket League upsetting hosts Rajshahi Division by six-wicket in the inaugural match that concluded on the last day at Shaheed Kamruzzaman Stadium in Rajshahi Thursday, reports UNB. With the day's well-merited victory in the first appearance, the Mehrab Hossain Junior-led Dhaka Metropolis team earned full eight points for the outright victory while losing Rajshahi Division failed to earn any point from the match. Needing easy 81 runs in eight wickets on the last day, Dhaka Metropolis team, which declared the first innings at 223 runs form 9, resumed the 2nd innings with 72 for 2 and scored the match-winning 153 runs for the loss of four wickets in 52.2 overs. Asif Ahmed, who was in batting with 21 runs, contributed the team highest 47 runs in the 2nd innings off 50 balls, featuring five fours and one six. Asif, who earlier scored 71 runs in the first innings in addition to grabbing four wickets for 29 runs, was adjudged man of the match. Besides, Mehrab Hossain Junior (28), Shamnsur Rahman (19), Marshall Ayub (11) were the other notable batsmen for Dhaka metro in the 2nd innings. Saqlain Sajib grabbed three wickets for 49 runs in the 2nd innings. Rajshahi Division scored 193 runs in the first innings and 182 runs in the 2nd innings to concede defeat. The day's other match between Dhaka Division and another newcomer Rangpur Division ended in a draw on the 4th and final day at Shaheed Chandu Stadium in Bogra Thursday. Dhaka Division, which scored 327 runs in the first innings, resumed the 2nd innings Thursday with 201 for 1 and declared the innings at 298 runs for 3 in 70 overs. The day's another league match between Sylhet Division and Khulna Division also ended in draw on the 4th and final day at Sylhet Stadium on Thursday.
