Dhaka Metropolis-Sylhet Div match ends in draw

SYLHET, Dec 14 (UNB): The four-day super league match of the Walton 13th National Cricket between Dhaka Metropolis team and host Sylhet Division ended in a tame draw on the 4th and final day at the Sylhet Divisional Stadium Tuesday, reports UNB. Dhaka Metropolis team, which took a 242-run lead over Sylhet Division on the 3rd day (Tuesday), today resumed the 2nd innings with overnight 376 for 4 and declared the innings at 480 runs for 7 in 132.2 overs. Two night watch batsmen, stand-in-captain of Dhaka Metropolis team Mehrab Hossain Jr pairing with number six Marshall Ayub, contributed 179 runs in the 5th wicket stand to carry the team total from 263 to 442 runs. Mehrab Jr, who was in batting with 64 runs, hammered an unconquered 104 runs off 227 balls featuring seven fours and one six while another night watch batsman Marshall Ayub (57) scored a polished 83 runs off 169 balls, hitting six fours and one six. National coloured spinner Enamul Haque Junior grabbed three wickets for 174 runs while Abu Jayed took two wickets for 70 runs. Chasing a target of 347 runs, Sylhet Division opened 2nd innings and scored 204 for 4 in 50 overs at stumps on the 4th and final day (Wednesday) to settle for a draw. For Sylhet Division, opener Imtiaz Hossain (65), one down Saker Ahmed (61), Nadif Chowdhury (n.o. 27) and Golam Mabud (n.o. 15) were the notable contributors. Sharifullah claimed two wickets for 30 runs while Arafat Sunny took one for 72 runs. Earlier, Sylhet Division scored 263 runs in the first innings replying to Dhaka Metropolis's 129 all out in the first innings. Abu Jayed of Sylhet Division was adjudged man of the match.
