Dhaka Mohammedans SC earned a hard-fought 1-0 win over Chittagong Mohammedans in the first leg of Cup semifinal of the Citycell Super Cup Football at the Bangabandhu National Stadium in Dhaka Friday, reports UNB.
Dhaka Mohammedans will play the return semifinal against Chittagong Mohammedans on March 24 at the same venue.
In the day's match, Nigerian striker Alamu Bukola Olalikan scored the all-important goal for Dhaka Mohammedans in the 89th minute with a superb header from inside the danger zone capitalizing on a lob from his compatriot John Godwin from midfield (1-0).
The two Mohammedans played attacking football from the beginning of the match, cheered by some 15,000 holiday-crowd at the big bowl.
Dhaka Mohammedans came close to scoring in the 36th minute, but a powerful shot taken from inside the D-box by Nigerian Paul Emanual Dami sailed harmlessly over the cross bar.
Dhaka Mohammedans got another scoring chance in the 51st minute but John Godwin's angular shot off a Robin pass was gripped by Chittagong custodian Mamun.
Chittagong Mohammedans skipper Kaiser must consider him unlucky when his powerful shot from vantage position whistled past the side bar early in the 8th minute of the match.
The port city team got another scoring chance in the 72nd minute, but a Nasir powerful shot from inside the D-box off Sagno minus was brilliantly gripped by experienced Dhaka Mohammedans custodian Aminul Haque.
Dhaka Mohammedans played better football especially in the second half and notched the deserving victory.
