Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader on Thursday said that the government would consider reducing the fees of vehicle registration, reports UNB.
"The government will consider reduction of vehicle registration fees as many people try to evade the registration fees through illegal means. Besides, a section of importers import vehicles illegally," he said.
The minister was speaking at the inaugural ceremony of the 10th 'Nitol-Niloy Dhaka Motor Show- 2015' and 'Dhaka Bike Show- 2015' in the capital.
Conference & Exhibition Management Services (CEMS) organised the three-day show at the International Convention City in the city's Bashundhara residential area.
Addressing the programme, Obaidul Quader also suggested the car traders to emphasize importing public transports or manufacture vehicles in the country.
Discouraging the import of large-scale private cars, he said the vehicle dealers should reduce importing small cars as these are one of the key reasons behind traffic congestion in cities.
The minister also assured that 125 kilometers of Dhaka-Chittagong 4 Lane Highway project would be completed by June next.
Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) president Kazi Akram Uddin Ahmed, Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) president Hossain Khaled, Nitol-Niloy group chairman Abdul Matlub Ahmad, and CEMS Global president Mehrun N Islam were also present at the inaugural session.
