Dhaka MSC clinch Fed Cup title beating Abahani

Dhaka Mohammedan Sporting Club (MSC) clinched the Citycell Federation Cup Football title beating arch-rivals Dhaka Abahani Limited by 3-2 goals in tiebreaker at the Bangabandhu National Stadium in the city Monday, reports UNB.brThe high voltage final match between the two teams was locked in 1-1 goal during the stipulated 90 minutes and also in the 30-minute extra sessions.brIt was the 9th Federation Cup Football trophy for the traditional black and white Motijheel outfit while Abahani Limited finished runners-up for the 6th time. Abahani clinched the Federation Cup title for the 7th time.brThe state-run Bangladesh Television (BTV) telecast the match live while Bangladesh Betar gave running commentary of the match in front of some 20,000 strong crowd at the big bowl.brChampions Dhaka Mohammedan SC received Tk 300,000 while runners-up team Dhaka Abahani got Tk 100,000 in prize money.brAfter a barren 1st half, National striker Zahid Hasan Emily scored for Abahani Limited while Mohammad Robin scored for Mohammedan SC in the regulation period.brIn the tiebreaker, Dami Emmanuel, Maruf Ahmed and Abdul Baten Komol converted the spot kicks correctly while the remaining attempt of national defender Rajanai Kanta Barman sailed over the crossbar.brOn the other hand, defender Waly Faisal and media Prantosh Kumar Das scored from penalty shootout while striker Emily, Mamunul Islam and skipper Kazi Nazrul Islam spoiled the chances.brGhanaian striker of Abahani Awudu Ibrahim was adjudged the best player of the tournament to receive Tk 20,000 in prize money.brNigerian striker of Mohammedan Alamu Bukola got the highest scorer award scoring eight goals to receive Tk 15,000 while Mohammad Robin of Mohammedan was named as the best player of the final to receive Tk 10,000 as prize money.brIn the day's final, Emily put Abahani ahead in the 55th minute pushing the ball home from a handshake distance off a right wing pass of Ibrahim (1-0).brRobin restored the parity for Mohammedan SC in the 71st minute by an inside box shot after taking the ball from midfield (1-1).
