FE REPORT | Thursday, 10 October 2024
Foreign ministry on Wednesday protested the killing of a Bangladeshi national who was shot and killed by the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) on 07 October 2024.
The victim was identified as Md Kamal Hossain who hailed from Cumilla Sadar South upazila.
Bangladesh condemned the killing in a protest note sent to the Indian High Commission in Dhaka.
It expressed concern that despite repeated commitments from the Indian authorities to bring down border killings to 'zero level', such incidents by the BSF continue to recur, said a spoke of the ministry.
Dhaka stressed that such incidents of border killing were undesirable and unwarranted, and such actions were in gross violation of the provisions of the Joint Indo-Bangladesh Guidelines for Border Authorities 1975. The government of Bangladesh called upon the government of India to stop recurrence of such heinous acts, conduct enquiries into all border killings and also identify those responsible and bring them to justice.
