Dhaka ready to welcome Narendra Modi

Red carpet is set to be rolled out as Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrives in city Saturday on his maiden two-day state visit after his swearing-in as the 15th prime minister of India on May 26, 2014. Modi is scheduled to arrive at 10.15 am at the invitation of his Bangladesh counterpart Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina as Dhaka describes the trip as a "crucial" one in terms of the country's "multifaceted" relations with neighbouring India. "Bangladesh looks forward to welcoming Modi as his visit will elevate the bilateral relations to a higher level and also push for a greater priority onward sub-regional issues of common interest," said PM's international affairs adviser Prof Gowher Rizvi while talking to news agency. Describing Modi's Bangladesh visit as a historic event, Indian external affairs Secretary Dr S. Jaishankar at a press briefing said "This visit would further consolidate bilateral relations between the two neighbouring countries," according to news agency.
