Dhaka reelected ITU council member
FE Report | Tuesday, 28 October 2014
Bangladesh has been reelected a council member of the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) from the Asia Pacific region for the term through 2018.
The elections were held on Monday in a conference held in Busan, South Korea.
The foreign ministry said the country's reelection to the ITU council will provide it with the opportunity to contribute to the global policy and address concerns of least developed countries and developing countries about access to telecommunication and reducing the digital divide.
Bangladesh has bagged a total of 115 votes competing with 12 others countries in which China topped the voting list followed by Republic of Korea.
Bangladesh won its membership to the ITU executive council for the first time in 2010, which would end in December 2014.
The ministry also considers Bangladesh's reelection to the ITU Council significant and reaffirms the recognition of the government's Digital Bangladesh Vision, a development and poverty reduction priority of the government.
